Weekly Library Duty
Date: Any day, Monday to Friday
Time: 2 hourly slots: 9-11am or 11-1pm
Description : PVs assist the school librarian with student loan of books, shelving, organizing, generally maintaining the library and recommending titles to boys during recess and their library periods. PVs also play a key role in thematic monthly displays and proposing creative ways to promote reading amongst the boys.
Monthly Thematic Book Displays
Description: Different theme(s) is/are adopted monthly. Tables, decorated in accordance with the themes, will feature recommended titles to encourage borrowing from boys. For eg, in Feb, we observe Total Defence Day and celebrate Valentines’ Day (in love with books). Boys will also engage in some craft work to reinforce what they have learnt/read. If you enjoy reading and are creative, with ideas or with your hands, please pop by and see how you could contribute to the library.
Date: TBC, subject to PV availability
Time : Recess
Description : With a view to moving library closer to the boys, the proposed initiative will see PVs rolling out book trolleys in library during recess, making it convenient for boys to browse and borrow books while eating. PVs are required to administer the loan of books, as well as recommending titles to the boys.
Date: Term 2, after completion of storytelling workshop
Time: Recess or where the stars cross paths
Venue : Library or mysterious locations to be announced on the day of activity
Description: This is a new initiative, which targets lower primary boys. The aim is to inculcate the love of reading at a young age. The storytelling activity should draw the boys to the library in search of the recommended title or other titles. By holding the sessions in various locations, we hope to bring the library to the boys, wherever they are during recess. If you are game to read to the boys publicly, however boisterous they may be, do sign up for the workshop and join in the crew.
